Surface Design
Explore how to transform blank surfaces into dynamic, visually engaging compositions. Experiment with pattern, colour, texture, and mark-making to create tactile designs on paper or fabric that convey mood, narrative, theme, and personal expression.
Silk-Screen Printing
Learn the basics of screen printing as a method for transferring graphic and hand-drawn imagery onto textiles. Emphasis will be on creating repeatable designs, exploring layering, placement, colour and print application.
Lino-block Printing
Learn to carve and hand-print your own bespoke designs onto paper and textiles using lino-block tools. We will explore relief-based mark-making techniques, patterns and imagery.
Natural Dyeing
Explore how locally grown & foraged plants can be used to dye textiles. Learn how to prepare fibres for natural dyeing, create a range of colours using plant-based dyes, and play with over-dying or modifiers to broaden colours.
Indigo Dye & Shibori
Explore the magic of indigo dyeing and Shibori resist techniques to create richly patterned textiles. Workshop content is flexible and can be tailored to the group, from hands-on vat preparation and advanced dye techniques, to guided dyeing with pre-prepared vats, allowing participants to experiment with pattern, texture, and colour at a level suited to their experience.
Flower Pounding
Flower pounding, or hammer printing is a direct printing method that involves pounding fresh botanical materials to create one-off prints. Explore a range of techniques for creating crisp floral monoprints on paper and cloth.
Hand-Embroidery
Learn to embroider foundational and three-dimensional stitches on cloth. Experiment with a variety of threads and materials to create tactile, richly textured, and personalized surfaces and imagery.
Visible Mending
Learn to repair, stitch, and repurpose fabrics and fibres, transforming them into functional, upcycled objects. Emphasis is on sustainability and creative reuse, incorporating a variety of embroidery stitches, layering, and appliqué.
Paper-cutting
Explore paper-cutting techniques to create dynamic imagery on a variety of papers. Experiment with surface design to colour and texturize papers, and the interplay of positive and negative space to produce visually rich, tactile outcomes.
Digital Textile Design
Explore the creative possibilities of designing textiles using digital tools. Experiment with patterns, colour palettes, and surface motifs to develop visually compelling, print-ready designs. This advanced workshop emphasizes design thinking, experimentation, and material translation, bridging traditional textile techniques with digital workflows.
