About Soft Practice

Soft Practice Studio is a Toronto-based design studio working at the intersection of textiles, materials, and creative production. The studio partners with brands, agencies, institutions, and creative teams to develop material-led design solutions, tactile brand experiences, and thoughtfully executed textile projects.

Soft Practice operates as a business-to-business design studio, offering services including textile design, material sampling, fabrication, brand activations, corporate workshops, and creative consulting. The studio supports projects that benefit from deep material knowledge, hands-on experimentation, and a nuanced understanding of how textiles function within spatial, commercial, and experiential contexts.

The name Soft Practice reflects an approach rooted in process, care, and material intelligence. “Soft” refers not only to textiles, but to a way of working that values tactility, human experience, and sensitivity to context. “Practice” signals an ongoing, iterative methodology, one that embraces research, testing, and collaboration with materials and creative partners.

Soft Practice Studio was founded in 2026 by Lizz Aston, Principal Designer and textile artist, with nearly two decades of experience across art, design, and industry. Her background bridges traditional craft, textile practice, contemporary art, and human-centred design. In addition to her studio practice, Aston is an educator and advisor within the post-secondary and cultural sectors, bringing technical knowledge, critical insight, and mentorship to her work with clients.

Soft Practice Studio draws on this foundation to offer thoughtful, material-driven design services for partners seeking meaningful, tactile engagements and creative outcomes.
